Spyker Owner Shot

Published on March 18, 2009 in News by Dan Fritter

Spyker, the incredibly luxurious Dutch sportscar manufacturer, narrowly escaped becoming ownerless when the enigmatic Russian billionaire Alexander Antonov was shot six times. Having acquired the brand just a few years ago, Antonov’s rebirth of the historic brand in 1999 was considered largely a hobby for the incredibly wealthy Russian, who is also chairman of the Konvers Group.

Leaving his Moscow residence yesterday, the billionaire and his bodyguard were attacked, with Antonov getting five bullets in the stomach, and losing a finger to another. The bodyguard was also shot once in the leg. After being rushed to hospital, Antonov remains in intensive car, but is expected to survive, as is the bodyguard.

Moscow police are treating the attack as an assassination attempt that they believe to be linked to Antonov’s business dealings. No arrests have been made.
