Four More Vehicles Get IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards the safest vehicles on the market. After sending them through a harrowing battery of tests including simulated collisions and an exhaustive overview of all their safety features, the IIHS gives the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ titles to the safest cars in each segment.

To get the Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle has to obtain a ''Good'' rating on all collision tests and be equipped with a collision mitigation system.

This year, four more models earned the highest mark: the Toyota Prius managed to ace the small overlap test but also got positive comments on its electronic safety systems.

Nissan also managed to earn two awards this year: both the Nissan Sentra and the Infiniti QX60 got the IIHS' highest award. The Kia Optima also managed to receive the Top Safety Pick+ award, thanks to its optional collision mitigation system.
