The Ford F-150 Receives IIHS' Top Safety Pick

The Ford F-150 SuperCrew and SuperCab are the only full-size pickup trucks to receive the Top Safety Pick mention from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the United States.

In July 2015, we were reporting that only the SuperCrew version managed to receive this award. Now the SuperCab also got it.

The 2016 Ford F-150 is the safest iteration of this vehicle. It managed to score pretty well in all collision test thanks to its high-strength steel chassis. As you may know, these tests are pretty hard to ace.

The aluminum body also helped the truck in the IIHS collision tests. Said aluminum also managed to bring the weight down, since the 2015 F-150 is up to 700 pounds lighter than the last generation.

According to Ford's Raj Nair, receiving the Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS is a clear testament of what Ford is capable of doing in the innovation, safety and durability department.

Ford says that their engineering team developped no less than 31 innovations that are fitted to the 2016 F-150. This includes updates to the structures that help disperse the impact's force, but also a patented aluminum roof structure.
