A New Police Vehicle, the 2016 Ford F-150

Ford just added a new model to its long list of police-spec vehicles. After updating the Explorer, it’s now the F-150’s turn to be added to the force.

Officers will have to choose between the SuperCrew and the SuperCab. Each vehicle will be specially modified for police duty: they receive a 240-amp electrical system, their centre console has been removed and the carpets have been replaced with rubber mats.

The trucks can come with either a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine or a 385-horsepower V8. These F-150s are also available either in 2WD or 4WD.

“Many officers need the extra space F-150 Special Service Vehicle offers,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager. “They can load the cargo box with equipment and still fit five people inside. Its utility is unmatched.”

The Ford F-150 Special Service Vehicle is the latest in line of police-spec models that includes the Taurus, the Explorer, the Expedition and the Transit.
