Possible Power Steering Problems for Four Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Products

Published on April 21, 2016 in News by Michel Deslauriers

Transport Canada received more than 100 complaints regarding the potential problem with the power steering system of the Dodge Journey, the Chrysler 200, the Chrysler Sebring and the Dodge Avenger.

According to TC, the return hose of these vehicles’ power steering setup could fail in extremely cold temperatures, which could result in a loss of steering assist and the risk of a vehicle fire. Two instances where the driver lost control of their vehicle were reported, in addition to three cases where the driver noticed smoke. However, no major injuries have been reported.

FCA was notified of the investigation, and Transport Canada is asking the population to chime in if they’ve experienced the same problem with their vehicles. The affected models are the 2009-2016 Dodge Journey, the 2011-2013 Chrysler 200, the 2007-2010 Chrysler Sebring and the 2007-2013 Dodge Avenger.

Once the investigation will be completed, TC will advise Fiat Chrysler Automobiles if a safety recall is in order. According to them, the automaker is claiming that although they are aware of the issue, the failure of a power steering return hose does not represent a safety risk.

Until April 29, 2016, owners of these vehicles can visit a dedicated page on Transport Canada’s website and submit feedback.
