Zagato's Latest Creation is an Aston Martin

While the coachwork business is dying out today, it was flourishing in the last century: big names like Pininfarina, Vignale, Karmann or Figoni & Falaschi were renowned for creating exceptional bodies on chassis made by Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Duesenberg and Cadillac.

The arrival of the monocoque chassis changed everything. It's now pretty much impossible to create custom one-off bodywork, which made more than one shop close its doors permanently.

Today, only a few remain, and one of them is Zagato. The Italian coachbuilder now produces special versions of luxury cars, like this Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato.

This beauty will be shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on March 21. There, the very elite of the automotive world will mingle among some of the rarest cars on the planet. This is the kind of place where showing up in a Ferrari 360 simply won’t do.

Every single panel of this Aston Martin has been redone, and the concept features some important design cues from other Zagato project: the double-bubble roof, the opening in the side fenders, the long sloping hood…

For now, the car is simply a concept, but Zagato usually builds their cars in limited series if there is enough interest. Pricing will obviously be out of this world, but those that will buy one will regard it as an investment.

Step right up!
