The End for the Cadillac ELR

Published on May 20, 2016 in Electric by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

The EV world is grieving as the most beautiful car in this segment, the Cadillac ELR, has passed away. Throughout Internet, it is announced that the last unit came out of the assembly plant in… February 2016?

Seems like Cadillac didn’t want to talk too much about it, and the ELR’s production line was simply stopped. This comes from an interview by HybridCars.com, where a Cadillac PR confirmed the sad news. Less than 3000 units of the Cadillac ELR will have found buyers.

So what caused this car to fail? According to some, it wasn’t groundbreaking enough, using the Chevrolet Volt’s drivetrain. It was obviously better finished, but at a starting price of $80,000, this extended-range hybrid wasn’t for everybody.

Judging by its lack of success, Cadillac probably won’t build a second-gen ELR. If you want one, simply ring the nearest dealer. Chances are they probably have one on the lot somewhere…
