BMW 2002 Hommage Concept: Mixing Past And Future

Published on May 24, 2016 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

In 1966, BMW debuted its 02 Series, a sleek-looking coupe featuring impressive handling. Among the offered versions was the 2002, the brand's first turbocharged vehicle. To mark the 50th anniversary of this important event, BMW showed up to the Concorso D'Eleganza Villa d'Este with a big surprise: the car you see in the above pictures is the 2002 Hommage concept.

While it shares its mechanical components with the M2, this concept features unique sheetmetal. It was designed to merge classic visual cues, such as the massive fenders, with more modern features like LED headlights.

Under the hood, the concept has a turbocharged inline-six pumping out 365 horsepower and up to 369 pound-feet of torque.

Since this car is nothing more than a styling exercise, don't expect to ever see it in a BMW dealership.

That's a shame.
