2017 Cadillac XT5: a Turbo Engine in the Works

Published on June 9, 2016 in New Models by Gabriel Gélinas

The Cadillac XT5 that’s currently on its way to Canadian dealers is powered by a 3.6-litre V6 with 310 horsepower. The ATS and CTS have the same engine, but the models sold in China are getting a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo that pumps out 258 horsepower and delivers more torque for a more dynamic drive in the XT5.

According to Automotive News, this turbo engine may eventually be offered on the North American XT5, as Cadillac’s president Johan de Nysschen has said, “I think it would be a great idea to consider this option for the North American market.”

Considering that several competitors’ vehicles are equipped with turbocharged mills, it just makes sense that Cadillac’s new SUV should rival its adversaries with a similar engine—especially one that would make the XT5 more dynamic. Therefore, we can expect the XT5 line to diversify with new turbocharged trims on offer.
