2018 Audi A5: We’re Driving it This Week

Published on June 14, 2016 in Spotlight on by Costa Mouzouris

Audi introduced the A5 in 2007, and will be launching the second-generation of the sporty coupe in Portugal this week. We’ll be there to drive it.

The newest Audi A5 features new, slightly sharper lines, and boasts a weight reduction of up to 60 kg. Speed-sensitive steering has been incorporated into a new chassis that is based on the new Audi A4 sedan, and variable-ratio steering is optional. The interior has been updated, and features the brand’s now familiar Audi virtual cockpit display. You can expect a slew of new safety features and technology.

There will be two gasoline and three diesel engine options in other markets, but the base engine for North America will probably be a 2.0-litre turbocharged four, the same engine that powers the new A4. Preliminary literature states the new 2.0-litre engine produces 17 per cent more power over the current model, while boasting a 22-percent reduction in fuel consumption.

It will transfer power to the wheels via a seven-speed S tronic transmission, though we will confirm which powerplants and gearbox choices Canadians will get after we take it for a test drive.

Look for a full review later this week.
