An Aston Martin to Celebrate the Supermarine Spitfire
The story of Aston Martin is closely linked with Great Britain and the Second World War. During the conflict, the automaker's factories were converted to build airplane parts.
Paying tribute to this past and to honour a Britannic legend celebrating its 80th birthday, Aston Martin launched a special version of its V12 Vantage S, the Spitfire 80. As the name implies, the car is a tribute to the Supermarine Spitfire, one of the most decorated planes of the Second World War.
Every car will be painted in Duxford Green, a shade unique to this model. The yellow accents on the coupe are an homage to the Spitfire, since the plane wore this colour on its wings. A company specialized in restoring vintage airplanes, Aircraft Restoration Company, will supply various bits, like the tailpipes. The inside of the cars are littered with nice touches, like the stickers near the door handles and the stitching in the headrests.
The car comes with a 5.9-litre V12 producing 565 horsepower.
The eight buyers who got one of these Astons will receive them in a museum telling the history of the Spitfire. They will also have a speech by a pilot who flew one of the legendary aircraft, and part of the 180,000 pounds ($307,000) asking price will go to a non-profit association.
