Power And Gadgets For The 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty

As time goes on, we are getting closer and closer to the time where the torque ratings in heavy-duty pickups will reach the magic four-digit number. Ram offers 900 pound-feet of torque in the 3500, Ford manages to squeeze out 860 pound-feet out of their 2016 F-Seroes Super Duty and Chevrolet offers an HD truck with 765 pound-feet of torque.

In an effort to secure the lead, Ford optimized the 2017 Super Duty: the 6.7 litre turbodiesel V8 develops 440 horsepower and 925 pound-feet of torque. You read that right; we are 75 lb.-ft. short of hitting the fourth digit.

This additional power enables the big Ford to tow up to 9525 kg. With a fifth-wheel setup, this number climbs to 14 742 kg.

But the F-Series Super Duty isn't just a rustic workhorse: the truck is loaded to the brim with new technology, and Ford is adding more for 2017. Now, the adaptive cruise control can use the trailer's brakes if it needs to. There is also a new camera on the truck's central light, useful for backing onto your fifth-wheel trailer.
