What’s popular with the younger generation

Over the last five years, manufacturers have been stepping up their offer with some very interesting options. Once considered luxuries, these nice-to-haves are now included in more affordable cars. So, what do members of the 30-and-under set hope to find in their next car?

As a member of this demographic, I asked myself that very question and the answer was simple: I want my phone and car to be completely integrated. And luckily, the vast majority of manufacturers now include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their mass-produced cars. I discussed the issue at length with friends, acquaintances and strangers, both younger and older, and came to the realization that I wasn’t alone in loving this feature.

The wish list also includes power windows and air conditioning. I know what you’re going to say: every car has that! It’s true that most cars do, and by a wide margin, but many younger folks don’t have the means to buy a new car, so they buy used, and the used cars they buy aren’t necessarily equipped with power windows and climate control.

Then, there are those who already have a car and will buy a new one. These drivers want comfort in winter. Heated seats, heated steering wheel...basically anything that can be heated is a major plus, especially in our northern climate.

Most importantly, young people demand a car that is reliable, fuel efficient and inexpensive to maintain. Will manufacturers heed these words? Only time will tell, but they’re on the right track!
