Vitesse AuDessus will make you carbon fibre wheels
If driving a car worth upwards of $300,000 isn't making enough of a statement for you, U.S.-based fabrication shop Vitesse AuDessus may have the perfect solution.
Specializing in bespoke carbon fibre components that range from engine covers to full replacement exteriors, Vitesse AuDessus has announced a new line of one-piece carbon fibre wheels for the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Aventador and Porsche 918 Spyder.
The wheels are carbon fibre reproductions of each vehicles' OEM wheels, and weigh an average of about 13 lbs. each.
"In certain cases, our wheels reduce unsprung weight by more than 50 per cent," CEO Stefany Sanchez said in a release. "This dramatic reduction translates into increased acceleration, reduced stopping distance, improved steering and handling, improved grip, reduced road noise and vibrations and improved fuel economy."
The manufacturing process for each wheel sees carbon fibre fabric that is pre-impregnated with resin hand-laid and autoclave-cured in CNC-milled aluminum moulds, resulting in a wheel that is about 30 per cent lighter than an aluminum equivalent.
Pricing for carbon fibre OEM wheels starts at US$8,875 a wheel, while bespoke pricing begins at US$10,125 a wheel—no small potatoes, but then again, if you've paid in the neighbourhood of $850,000 for a Porsche 918, what's another $50,000 or so for a new set of shoes?
And don't worry; if you don't own one of the three models mentioned above, Vitesse AuDessus will gladly make you carbon fibre OEM-spec wheels for any current Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz or BMW model.
