BMW unveils GT3-inspired M6 Coupe Competition Edition
If you're looking to buy a BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R, a car built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BMW in North America, you'll likely be waiting a while.
If you're looking to the next best thing, however, BMW has an answer in the M6 Coupe Competition Edition.
Unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show, the Competition Edition builds on the M6 Coupe with the Competition Package, and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 that makes 600 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Competition Edition comes in a choice of two colours: Alpine White and luminous Austin Yellow metallic.
In Alpine White, the car features BMW M colour stripes.
The Competition Edition in either colour sits on matte black 20-inch M alloy wheels, and features a black chrome grille, door handles and side gills, and carbon fibre mirror caps, rear spoiler and rear diffuser.
The carbon fibre continues inside, with the Competition Edition featuring carbon fibre trim on the dash and steering wheel spokes.
Now this is the part that stings: The Competition Edition is only available on cars fitted with the Competition Package, the matte black 20-inch wheels, and so-called "multi-function" front seats, which all adds up to more than a few thousand dollars on top of the car's $99,500 sticker price.
