BMW launching M Performance version of X4 crossover
With the popularity of crossovers exploding in recent years, it was only a matter of time before BMW unveiled a hotted up version of its X4.
Set to hit Canadian dealers in February 2016, the X4 M40i gets decked out with BMW M Performance bits including an all-new 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder that makes its world premiere in the quirky-looking crossover.
The turbocharged straight six 355 horsepower and 343 lb.-ft. of torque, helping the X4 M40i sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
The engine comes mated to an eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission that features paddle shifters and a launch control function, while the X4 M40i comes fitted with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.
It also features a "specially tuned sports chassis" that includes stronger springs and stabilizers, adaptive M Performance dampers, and increased camber on the front axle.
Inside, the X4 M40i gets an M Performance leather-wrapped steering wheel, M Performance gear shift lever, sport seats, and X4 M40i lettering on the instrument cluster.
No pricing information is available just yet, but expect something significantly more than the X4 xDrive35i's $55,000 starting price.
