Ford Super Duty tops list of Canada's most stolen vehicles
The Ford Super Duty is once again featured prominently on the Insurance Bureau of Canada's annual Top 10 list of the most stolen vehicles in the country.
Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks from a handful of model years claimed nine of the 10 spots on the most stolen vehicles list for 2015, according to the IBC.
The IBC said 2005 through 2007 F-350s ranked in the top three, while 2003 and 2001 models placed fifth and seventh, respectively.
F-250s from 2006, 2004, 2007 and 2001 filled out the rest of the list alongside the 2006 Cadillac Escalade, which placed fourth overall.
"None of the top 10 stolen vehicles are equipped with an electronic manufacturer immobilizer as a theft deterrent system, so they are easier to steal," IBC investigative services vice-president Rick Dubin said in a statement.
"We also see from this list that criminals continue to have a huge demand for AWD/4WD late model high-end vehicles."
Last year's most stolen vehicles list was also dominated by the Super Duty, with Ford's three-quarter- and one-ton trucks taking six of the 10 spots.
The 2003 Escalade was also on the 2014 list.
According to Dubin, vehicle thefts in Canada are up one per cent for the year, to 73,964, with the biggest increase seen in British Columbia at 29 per cent.
"We are seeing containers in the Montreal and Halifax ports stocked with car and truck parts," he said. "Crooks are trying to fool Canada Border Services Agency and IBC by dismantling high-end, late-model vehicles."
In order to protect your vehicle from being stolen, Dubin said the following steps are crucial:
