Ford unveils facelifted 2017 Fusion, Escape in Detroit
Ford unveiled facelifted versions of its Fusion sedan and Escape crossover at the Detroit auto show, bringing the design of the two more in line with the likes of the latest Mustang, Edge and Focus.
While the Fusion's look is largely unchanged from the second generation car unveiled four years ago, it does feature a new grille that more closely resembles that of the Focus and Mustang.
New Fusion models will include the V6 Sport, which is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre EcoBoost that makes 325 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, and a pair of electrified options in the Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi.
The Fusion Energi features a 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery and will have an expected electric driving range of 32 kilometres, before switching to a 2.0-litre gas engine when the battery is depleted.
Ford says its combined driving range will be in the neighbourhood of 800 kilometres.
The 2017 Fusion is set to go on sale in mid-2016, with the Fusion V6 Sport following "a few weeks later."
Meanwhile, the updated Escape now resembles the Oakville, Ont.-built Edge thanks to its new front fascia and grille, while a pair of new EcoBoost engines—a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre—will make their way under the hood.
The new Escape is set to go on sale in the spring.
