600-horsepower 2017 BMW Alpina B7 coming to Canada

Redesigned for 2016, the BMW 7 Series, winner of Motoring TV's Luxury Car of the Year award, is fast by any standards—let alone for a 4,500-lb. sedan.

With a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 filling the engine bay, the 7 Series will walk from 0 to 100 km/h in a scant 4.4 seconds thanks to 445 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque.

Top speed: As fast as 250 km/h with the right options boxes checked.

If those numbers aren't up to snuff, however, there is another option.

Meet the 2017 BMW Alpina B7, a car that amps the 7 Series up in just about every way imaginable—oh, and it's available at Canadian BMW dealers.

Powered by a modified version of the factory 4.4-litre, the B7 makes a ridiculous 600 horsepower at the wheels, while 494 lb.-ft. of torque is available at 2,000 rpm.

The result?

Rest to 100 km/h takes just 3.7 seconds as the car makes its way to a top speed of 310 km/h.

Getting there should be plenty comfortable, too, with the Alpina B7 benefiting from a host of technologies, including air suspension, electronic damper control, so-called "Active Comfort Drive," and, of course, BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.

BMW said ride height can be adjusted by as much as 40 millimetres, with the sedan automatically dropping to its lowest height at speeds faster than 225 km/h.

The interior is about as decked out as you would expect, with all the creature comforts of a private jet available to both passenger and driver.

If you're not familiar with the Alpina brand, it's been tuning BMWs for more than 50 years, and has established itself as the best in the business.

BMW Canada said pricing will be announced closer to the Alpina B7's fall launch, but expect it to cost substantially more than the 7 Series' starting price of $113,900.
