Canadians collectively sigh over 2017 Audi S4 wagon

Put your bibs on, because this is the drool-worthy 2017 Audi S4 wagon.

Let's get this out of the way now: It will not, at least for the foreseeable future, be coming to Canada.

Now that you've had a chance to dry your tears, here are the details.

Gone is the previous generation's supercharged V6, with a turbocharged 3.0-litre used in its stead that makes more horsepower—354—and more torque—369—while consuming less fuel.

It's also faster, with the new S4 wagon sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds compared to the current version's time of about 5.4 seconds.

An eight-speed automatic fills the transmissions tunnel, and brings with it a freewheeling function when the accelerator is released at speeds between 55- and 160 km/h.

Unlike the 2016 A4 allroad quattro, the only Audi wagon available in Canada, the S4 wagon features a more traditional version of the automaker's quattro all-wheel drive system that is full-time and rear-biased.

It also rides about an inch lower than standard A4 models.

The silver lining, if you're in the mood to find one, is that all of this applies to the S4 sedan that will eventually make its way to Canada.
