You can rent a Shelby again—kind of

Ford, Shelby and car rental giant Hertz are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the rent-a-racer program with a special edition Mustang dubbed the Shelby GT-H.

Like the original GT 350-H, the 2016 Shelby GT-H will be available to rent—in this case through select airport locations in the United States.

Unlike the original, however, it's not really a Shelby.

While built by Shelby American at its shop in Las Vegas, the GT-H is based on the 2016 Ford Mustang GT, and gets no Shelby performance add-ons.

Instead, it gets a cat-back exhaust system and suspension kit, both by Ford Performance, and interior and exterior accents, including a vented hood, spoiler and carbon fibre front splitter, by Shelby.

The GT-H comes finished in black with gold stripes.

Ford says the lineup of 140 or so cars will feature "mostly automatic transmissions."

Rental locations include: Detroit; Chicago; Indianapolis; Seattle; San Francisco; San Jose; Los Angeles; San Diego; Las Vegas; Phoenix; Dallas; Fort Myers, Fla.; Miami; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Atlanta; and Charlotte, N.C.

Start planning your trip accordingly.
