Volvo Partners Up With Uber

In the past few years, the automotive industry has been racing towards a common goal: everybody wants to be the first to offer a fully autonomous vehicle.

In an effort to gain an edge over the competition, some manufacturers are now entering partnerships with companies that are working on technologies that might one day help the driverless car.

For example, Volvo just announced they signed a deal with Uber. We know the company for its personal vehicle cab-hailing service, but they are also working on driverless cars. Their ultimate goal is to have driverless taxis going around the cities of the world. However, they don’t intend to build their own vehicles.

This is where manufacturers like Volvo come in. They will share technologies with Uber, and send some vehicles to Uber for testing and development.

So, in the next few years, don’t be surprised if you hail an Uber from your phone and an XC90 comes up to your location entirely on its own.
