Updates for the 2017 Mazda6

The critically acclaimed, but slow-selling Mazda6 midsize sedan gets a few new items for 2017, enhancing its dynamic driving characteristics and the refinement level of its cockpit.

First of all, Mazda is adding its new G-Vectoring Control system to the Mazda6. It’s a technology developed to increase the stability and roadholding abilities of the car. The 2017 Mazda3 also gains this technology, and other Mazda products will eventually benefit from it as well.

That’s great, but the majority of midsize sedan buyers likely don’t care too much about performance and handling. That’s why Mazda also performed a bunch of changes in the 2017 Mazda6’s cockpit and shuffled equipment levels, too.

In order to reduce noise inside the car, the manufacturer changed the door seals, adopted a stricter panel gap tolerance, installed a windscreen made with thicker glass and squeezed in improved sound deadening material under and around the cockpit.

The base 2017 Mazda6 GX gets a rearview camera and a redesigned steering wheel, while the GS trim adds navigation, Smart City Brake Support, a heated steering wheel and blind spot monitoring as standard equipment. The GT version benefits from a colour head-up display, a 4.6-inch driver trip computer display and traffic sign recognition.

The Mazda6 GT’s Technology Package, which already includes adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and i-ELOOP regenerative braking system, adds lane keep assist.

Last but not least, the GT’s new Premium Package offers Nappa leather seating with contrast-colour piping, a black headliner, unique steering wheel stitching and satin chrome trim.

The 2017 Mazda6 is now available, and its price varies from $24,695 to $36,795, excluding freight and delivery charges.
