We’ll be Driving a New and (Not so) Mysterious Volkswagen SUV

Despite the diesel engine scandal, Volkswagen is dominating the world. It’s still today the biggest automotive group on the planet, and Volkswagen is more than ever looking to the future. At the upcoming Paris auto show in late September, we should discover an electric vehicle that will proudly bear the brand’s logo in addition to boasting a range of 500 km and dimensions similar to those of a Golf.

What could be more futuristic than a good old midsize, seven-passenger SUV? Jokes aside, we all know this segment is the one that resists change the most, but it’s one that Volkswagen never played in.

In North America, where SUVs become more popular with every passing day, Volkswagen is offering an aging Tiguan in the compact segment as well as an aging Touareg in the luxury SUV segment. VW could strongly benefit from a more modern product, one that will compete with the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander.

We already know what this new vehicle will look like, as its styling will be essentially similar to the CrossBlue Concept’s that we can see in the pictures here. However, this is a concept. This week, we’ll get the opportunity to drive around in a camouflaged version of the production SUV, and conduct some performance tests.

The simple fact that we’re going out to check out the off-road prowess of the new vehicle means Volkswagen is aiming to offer a product that’s more capable than the Honda and the Toyota, and no doubt a serious threat to the Nissan Pathfinder.

We’ll keep you posted!
