Challenger AWD, Barracuda And Durango SRT in Dodge's Future

In the next few years, the Dodge lineup will change significantly. According to an article published by Automotive News, the American brand has pushed back the update of a few models.

The Journey for example, which was supposed to share its platform with the Chrysler 200, will be produced unchanged until 2018. After that, it will be redesigned on a new FCA platform called Giorgio, and will be built in Italy.

Speaking of Giorgio: this architecture will also find its way under the next-gen Charger and Challenger somewhere in 2018. During their redesign, they will shed some weight: 181 kg for the Charger, 227 for the Challenger.

Before its redesign, the Challenger will receive some interesting updates: an all-wheel drivetrain mixed with the Pentastar V6 will be announced, as well as a widebody Hellcat.

Once the Giorgio chassis has been on the market for a few years, the manufacturer wants to launch a convertible based on it. It could use the Barracuda name.

Even though the Chrysler Pacifica is the minivan of the hour, the Dodge Grand Caravan will still be offered as a fleet-only vehicle up until 2019.

Finally, the Durango will receive some cosmetic upgrades in 2017 and it may even spawn an SRT variant equipped with a 6.4-litre HEMI V8.

Obviously, none of this has been confirmed by FCA… and the manufacturer has a habit of making long-term plans and changing them. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Dodge.
