Porsche Cayman GT4: One for the Road, Two Others for the Track

The Car Guide is on its way to Germany this week to get acquainted with the all-new version of the Porsche Cayman GT4, the GT4 Clubsport, in addition to its lightweight counterpart, the GT4 Clubsport MR developed by Manthey Racing. It’s not one, but three unique cars that we’ll be discovering on the Lausitzring circuit.

The Cayman GT4 is a street-legal production car, while the GT4 Clubsport and GT4 Clubsport MR are authentic race cars that can only be legally driven on a track. We’ll gladly be giving ourselves a triple shot of pure adrenaline, with a progressive level of intensity.

The GT4 is the most radical variant of the Cayman range. Its 3.8-litre flat-six engine delivering 385 horsepower, its six-speed manual gearbox, its front suspension lifted from a 911 GT3 and its Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires are the main elements allowing the Cayman GT4 to express itself and satisfy the most passionate driving enthusiasts.

With the GT4 Clubsport, Porsche is offering racing amateurs the chance to compete on a track. The cockpit is stripped down, while a safety cage, a competition seat with six-point harness and a fire extinguisher have been installed. The manual transmission of the roadgoing GT4 is replaced with a six-speed, dual-clutch PDK gearbox, and the car rolls on Michelin racing slicks.

Developed with the collaboration of Porsche and Manthey Racing, the GT4 Clubsport MR is a lightened version that weighs 40 kg (88 lbs.) less than the GT4 Clubsport. Manthey Racing’s “kit” includes, among other things, carbon fibre doors and hood, a polycarbonate windscreen, a modified suspension with an adjustable font anti-roll bar as well as an oversized rear wing.
