Here is the 2017 Jeep Compass

When we wrote our Guide de l’Auto 2017 annual buyer's guide, we asked Fiat Chrysler Automobiles if the Jeep Compass/Patriot duo was coming back in 2017. They told us that indeed, both models would soldier on without much change.

This is why we were quite surprised to see an all-new 2017 Compass pop up on Internet yesterday.

Based on the Small Wide Platform (already used on the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade), the newcomer has been designed to be sold throughout the world, with no less than 17 different powertrain configurations planned for this SUV. We don’t know exactly which of these will be used here, but we can extrapolate that a four-cylinder will send its power through an automatic transmission to a four-wheel drive system or a front-wheel drive layout. By looking at the only three pictures sent by FCA, we can see that a Trailhawk version will be offered.

Jeep announces that the 2017 Compass will be launched in the first quarter of 2017. Interesting fact: if we believe what the manufacturer tells us, the Patriot will still be built… in its actual form? Only the future can tell…
