2017 Honda Civic Hatchback: The One We’ve been Waiting for
Nearly 17 years ago, Honda Canada and American Honda made a HUGE mistake, at least in Honda buyers’ and enthusiasts’ eyes: they cancelled the Civic hatchback. Sure, we got the SiR for a few short years afterwards, but it was a mediocre attempt at trying to be forgiven.
And forgiven they were not, up until a short while ago. Many market have been privy to Civic hatchback but clearly, we North Americans were not good enough for it. The repeated pounding from auto journalists and the Civic Nation has finally paid off! The Civic hatchback is coming hatchback! Or, I mean, back…
I sometimes wonder how many more cars Honda would have sold in the last decade and a half, had they still offered a three-door (or five-door) version of their bestseller. Those that could not find what they wanted walked across the street to Mazda or Hyundai and left with a 3 Sport or an Elantra GT. I’m willing to bet the number would be in the hundreds of thousands…
So, with a recently revised and very good Civic sedan and coupe now comes an extremely uniquely styled and desirable car. The Civic hatchback will be sold, for the moment, as a premium product with the impressive turbocharged, 1.5L four-cylinder engine as standard fare.
The base price for the car is $21,390 with the six-speed manual and $22,690 with the CVT automatic. Honda is forgiven! The Fit might not be so forgiving in the near future though…
Look out for our review in the next few days.
