2017 Mazda CX-5: Production Already Under Way in Japan
The second generation of the popular CX-5 was just unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but Mazda is already starting its production.
The first assembled units of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be sold in Japan starting next February, while those for other markets, including Canada, will follow soon after.

Launched in 2011 as a 2012 model, the first CX-5 quickly became a strong seller for Mazda. The one-millionth copy of the compact SUV was built in April 2015, and at the end of last October, more than 1.57 million units have been assembled. Only the Mazda3 reached the one-million-unit mark more quickly. According to Mazda, the CX-5 represents about a quarter of total global sales.
The 2017 Mazda CX-5 was been thoroughly redesigned both inside and out, but keeps the same SKYACTIV powertrains. That includes 2.0L and 2.5L four-cylinder units, matched to either front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrains. However, later in 2017, Mazda will be adding a turbo-diesel, 2.2L four in Canada and in the United States.
The CX-5 will also be the first vehicle of the brand to offer a new paint colour called Soul Red Crystal. Compared to the Soul Red paint already available on several of the company’s models, the new colour will boast 20% greater saturation and 50% more depth.
Until the 2017 arrives in Canada, interesting promotions and incentives should be offered on the 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 currently on sale.
