2018 Ford Fiesta Presented in Germany

An all-new Fiesta will soon appear on our market, and the European version has just been presented during a Ford event in Cologne, Germany.

Over there, the Fiesta is offered in three-door and five-door hatchback body styles, while in North America, we get the five-door as well as a four-door sedan. We don’t expect that to change.

In Europe, Ford will be playing the luxury game with the Fiesta, as it will be offering a host of comfort and convenience features such as a panoramic sunroof, a SYNC 3 infotainment system and even a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a brand usually found in German luxury automakers. A Fiesta Vignale will also be introduced, its badge representing the most luxurious versions of Ford of Europe’s cars and SUVs.

In addition, the Fiesta Active will boast the more robust look and the elevated ride height of an SUV or a crossover. In the same vein as the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, the Subaru Outback, the Audi A4 allroad and the Volvo V60 Cross Country. Fiesta buyers in Europe will also be able to equip their car with an ST-Line package, basically the sporty appearance of the ST version, but without the more powerful engine and the performance.

The list of advanced safety features gets longer with the availability of a front precollision system with pedestrian detection, active park assist with perpendicular parking, automatic high beams, road sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist and much more.

Inside, the new Fiesta will feature either a 4.2-inch infotainment screen, a 6.5-inch touchscreen or an 8.0-inch screen with swipe and pinch functionalities.

The car’s wheelbase grows by only four millimetres, but its overall length is stretched by 71 mm and width increases by 12 mm. Ford promises better refinement and reduced road noise.

Under the hood, several powertrains will be available in Europe. However, the Canadian and U.S. markets might only get a turbocharged, 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that could develop up to 140 metric horsepower. That’s beside an eventual Fiesta ST version, of course.

The all-new Ford Fiesta should appear on our market in 2017 as a 2018 model. Obviously, all the trims and features listed here apply to the European-spec cars, and could differ in North America. We’ll know more in the coming months.
