2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Revealed
After the launch of the recently redesigned E-Class sedan and wagon, as well as the high-performance AMG variants, it’s the E-Class Coupe’s turn to get some TLC. On sale in its current form since 2009, although it did receive a makeover for the 2014 model year, the E-Class Coupe will be thoroughly redesigned make its world debut at the upcoming 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
Compared to the outgoing generation, the new car rides on a 113-mm longer wheelbase, and it’s also longer, wider and higher. According to the manufacturer, the increase in size results in more interior space, especially for rear-seat occupants who’ll benefit from gains in headroom and legroom.

Since we’re on the subject, the car’s cockpit will offer two 12.3 digital screens side by side—one for the driver instrument panel and one for the COMAND infotainment system. The circular air vents, finished in silver shadow, boast the look of jet turbines, while two light wood trim packages will be available. An ambient lighting package featuring LED technology will be standard, with 64 colour options to choose from. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration will likely be included.
As is the case with the current model, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe sports frameless doors and no B-pillar. Compared to the sedan and wagon, the coupe gets a sportier front end with a lowered grille and power bulges on its hood. In Canada, the car might include an AMG styling package as standard, which is typically the case for our market.
While E 220 d, E 200, E 300 and E 400 variants are offered in Europe, only the latter has been confirmed for the U.S. market, and Canada should follow suit. However, the brand’s 4MATIC all-wheel drivetrain should be included on every Canadian E-Class Coupe. The E 400 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-litre V6 that develops 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, while a nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. With AWD, the car should be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
Since we are treated to the E 300 sedan, a coupe equivalent, with its 241-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-litre four could also be available. The outgoing generation wasn’t offered with AMG variants, and right now, nothing indicates the new coupe will be.
The options list should include the brand’s AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension, the highly-efficient MAGIC VISION CONTROL wipe/wash system for the windshield as well as DRIVE PILOT—the company’s semi-autonomous driving feature.
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe should hit showroom floors in the summer of 2017.
