The Honda Civic Type R is in Montreal!

Honda will be presenting the Civic Type R at the Montreal Auto Show—actually, the prototype version that it’s displaying everywhere.

To get a little extra coverage, the automaker organised a little private unveiling of the car in the Old Port of Montreal. An extreme car in such a classic location, a funny mix that nevertheless works very well.

Ah, but you were expecting a few details about the car here? Unfortunately, we can’t give you any. It’s not that we have to keep a secret, with information under embargo. Nope, Honda simply had nothing to announce, and if it did, it likely wouldn’t be in Montreal.

Anyway, here’s a summary of what we know.

First of all, the car is front-wheel drive, and power comes from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine of unknown displacement. Output hasn’t been confirmed either, although everyone is expecting more than 320 horsepower, maybe even 350.

What we do know, however, is that the Type R won’t be equipped with a CVT automatic, unlike some rumours that were spread by other media. The only gearbox available will be a six-speed manual.

The brakes at all four corners were developed in collaboration with Brembo and there will be an adjustable suspension, if we rely on the console-mounted button inside the prototype, right beside the shift lever. We can see a Comfort mode and an “R” mode.

The car should arrive in Canada sometime this summer. Needless to say, we can’t wait to drive it!
