2018 Toyota Camry: Now with Style
The current-generation Camry sedan was redesigned for the 2015 model year, so it isn’t all that old. However, Toyota is preparing an all-new generation for 2018, and after unveiling it at the Detroit Auto Show, it will now make its first Canadian appearance at the Toronto Auto Show.
The 2018 Toyota Camry boasts a completely redesigned body with more curves, a fastback-like roofline and a decidedly sportier look. It seems as though the Japanese manufacturer thinks its loyal consumer base is ready for a Camry with more character.
The sedan will be built on a new platform called TNGA (for Toyota New Global Architecture) that, according to the automaker, will provide a more dynamic and amusing drive. Compared to the current Camry, the wheelbase has been stretched by two inches, while the profiled roofline helps lower the car’s centre of gravity. Toyota claims a more confortable cockpit and improved outward visibility.
A new 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine will serve as the base engine, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It should delivery gains in both power and fuel economy. A new direct-injected, 3.5-litre V6 and a hybrid powertrain will also be on offer, the latter including a continuously variable automatic with a sport mode that simulates six fixed gear ratios.
The 2018 Toyota Camry will be on sale this summer.
