2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo: the Wagon Variant

Published on March 7, 2017 in Geneva by Sylvain Raymond

At the Paris Auto Show back in 2012, Porsche unveiled the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept, a car that seduced many showgoers with its ultra-sporty wagon design. It was such a hit that we were left wondering why the automaker didn’t send it directly into production.

We had to wait about six years for that to happen, but the Geneva Auto Show was chosen for presenting the new 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, alongside the also-new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid which is the most potent sedan ever produced by Porsche.

What sets it apart?

What distinguishes the Panamera Sport Turismo is obviously its design. The whole rear end of the car from the B pillar—the one between the front and rear doors—was entirely reshaped with a more wagon-esque profile. Don’t be fooled by its new bodywork, though, because it inherits several of the Panamera’s powertrains, including the 550-horsepower mill of the Turbo version. The Sport Turismo also boasts an active rear spoiler integrated to the roofline, which can be deployed in three ways according to speed and chosen setting.

The advantage of the Sport Turismo is its enhanced versatility. The car’s roofline stands five millimetres higher than the regular sedan’s, making getting in and out of the cockpit easier. It can accommodate three passengers in the back seat, which isn’t the case of the conventional Panamera. The centre section of the seatback can be folded down for transporting objects such as skis. A two-seat configuration is also offered for extra comfort.

As for cargo space, not only is the liftover height lower, but volume rises by 20 litres. With the rear seatbacks folded down, maximum cargo space grows by 50 litres.

The base version of the 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo will be priced at $109,700 and will be available in Canada this fall.
