Pricing Announced for the 2017 Honda Civic Type R

After teasing us for two years now, Honda Canada is finally cutting the mighty Civic Type R loose on our roads. And it just announced its MSRP.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R will start at $40,890 before freight and delivery charges, which lines up nicely with the prices of the Ford Focus RS, the Subaru WRX STI and the Volkswagen Golf R which we compared last year.

The Civic Type R is equipped with a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that punches out 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The only gearbox available—thank you—is a six-speed manual transmission, which sends its power to the front wheels, as opposed to the three rivals mentioned above that all boast AWD. The Type R also gets 20-inch wheels wrapped in 245/30ZR20 rubber, which barely hide the 350-mm cross-drilled brake rotors up front and 305-mm discs at the rear. The drive mode system offers three settings, including Comfort, Sport and +R.

The hot hatch’s fuel economy is rated at 10.6 L/100 km around town and 8.3 on the open road, for a combined average of 9.6 L/100 km.

The list of features includes LED headlights and DRLs, a 542-watt sound system with seven-inch touchscreen and navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, among other things.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R will start arriving in Canadian dealerships on July 14.
