Suzuki Halts XL7 Production

Published on May 13, 2009 in News by Dan Fritter

Suzuki’s XL7 crossover is quite simply a terribly unsuccessful vehicle. A joint venture shared with General Motors, the XL7 is essentially a slightly modified variant of the Chevrolet Equinox. Itself a slow seller, the uglier XL7 has been nearly a complete failure for a company now known for their excellent smaller Grand Vitara and SX4 vehicles.

Blaming the loan crunch in the US, Suzuki executives have announced that the XL7's production has been put on hold, indefinitely. However, they are hopeful for the vehicles return upon the economic recovery. The plant responsible for XL7 production is continuing to produce Equinox and other GM products, and although GM’s future may look bleak, Suzuki did not comment on how GM’s own struggles will affect XL7 production.
