Polestar Concept: We’re on our Way to Shanghai for the World Premiere

Last July, the Polestar brand was given a clear mandate by parent company Volvo. In a bold move, Polestar was to morph from being the Swedish brand’s performance arm to the brand’s developer of future electric and hybrid cars. It seems that Polestar did not waste any time in accepting this new challenge because it now has a brand new concept car to show us, and The Car Guide is on its way to Shanghai in China for its world premiere on the evening of October 17th.

Very little is known about this new concept. In keeping with current trends in the automotive world, Polestar has recently released a teaser video in which the car is never seen and where a series of words like “No compromises” and “No bullshit” is prominently featured. The video ends with the words “No.1” which is expected to be the name given to this new concept.

We fully expect this new concept to be electrified, but at this stage, it is not clear whether it is to be a fully electric, battery-powered car or a performance hybrid powered by a mix of electric motors and an internal combustion engine. With Polestar, Volvo intends to challenge both Tesla and BMW’s i Performance sub-brand, so the new concept could go either way. The styling also remains a mystery, but given Polestar’s DNA and the fact that the Volvo brand showcased a Concept Coupe at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in 2013, it would not surprise us if the new Polestar Concept was in fact a performance coupe, and that would be a welcome relief from the current onslaught of crossovers and SUVs.

The new Polestar Concept will be revealed at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, China on the evening of October 17th. The Car Guide will be on site and we will tell you all about Polestar’s intriguing new concept when it bows. Watch this space…
