Shelby Daytona Coupe Price Tag Hits $6.8 million US

There isn’t much with Carroll Shelby’s name on it that DOESN’T attract attention. From his legendary Cobra to the lesser-know Shelby-tuned Toyota 2000GT, Shelby’s products have always fetched prices that keep the average human being from ever being able to own one, but there’s one particular Shelby that’s significantly less attainable than any other: an original Cobra Daytona Coupe.

Designed to compete in the FIA World Championchip, only six of the raucous two-doors ever left the factory. Destined for motorsports usage, not surprisingly, they’re exceptionally rare, with the last one to become available having recently crossed the block at Mecum’s Spring Auction. With critics expecting prices to stretch into eight figures, bidding opened at $4 million US, quickly ramping up to the $6 million dollar mark before hitting a brick wall at $6.8 million.

The truly amazing part? The reserve remained unmet.
