2018 BMW X2 officially unveiled

The German brand will add yet another utility vehicle to their lineup early next year. After presenting the BMW X2 Concept at the Paris auto show in September 2016, the production version of the sporty subcompact SUV has just been revealed.

It will be built on the same platform as the BMW X1, which means it rides on a 2670-millimetre wheelbase. However, it’s a little shorter and its roofline is lower, contributing to the X2’s more muscular stance.

One version of the X2 will be sold in Canada, at least to start. Power comes from a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the same one obviously found in the X1. It develops 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. An M Sport X package mixes design elements from both the company’s M and X lines, in addition to wheel-mounted paddle shifters, an M Sport suspension and 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.

The 2018 BMW X2 will be offered with bright colours such as Milano Blue Metallic, Sunset Orange Metallic and Galvanic Gold Metallic. Inside, Sensatec seat upholstery is standard, while leather seating is available as well. High-gloss black, aluminum and matte oak grain wood trim are among the finish options, and a panoramic sunroof can be added, too. BMW’s sixth-generation iDrive infotainment system is standard, matched to either a 6.5-inch display or an 8.8-inch touchscreen.

Pricing has not been sorted out yet, but the 2018 BMW X2 will be on sale in next March.
