Subcompact luxury sport-utility vehicles, equipped with all-wheel drive, fulfill the important need of safely hauling the family, but also allow consumers to look good in an upscale vehicle.

The subcompact SUV segment has grown in popularity over the past few years, and new models keep being added to the market. Among them, many interesting choices can be found.

The 2018 Audi Q3 is equipped with a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that provides zesty performance, while its quattro all-wheel drivetrain boasts impressive capabilities. The Q3 quattro starts at $37,400 before freight and delivery charges.

The 2017 BMW X1 serves up a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and xDrive all-wheel traction, both very efficient. This generation of the X1, which appeared in 2016, is more spacious and more refined than ever. It starts at $40,300.

The 2017 Buick Encore may be small, but its cockpit it surprisingly spacious, and its turbocharged, 1.4-litre engine is fuel efficient. With AWD, its base MSRP is set at a low $27,895.

The 2017 Infiniti QX30 is the newcomer in the segment, at least for now. It sets itself apart from its distinct exterior design and the quality finish of its cockpit, while performance is also an interesting aspect thanks to its 208-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. With AWD, it retails from $38,490.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA is blessed with a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 208 horsepower, and its 4MATIC all-wheel drivetrain is fitted as standard equipment. The GLA 250 is offered from $38,500.

Finally, the 2018 Volvo XC40 luxury subcompact SUV will soon be launched, which should cause another stir in this popular vehicle segment.
