2019 Volvo XC40: Covering All the Bases

Published on December 4, 2017 in Spotlight on by Mathieu St-Pierre

Volvo is in it to win and the imminent arrival of their compact XC40 crossover is proof. The current XC60 is an excellent alternative to the German onslaught that includes the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3.

The XC40’s job will be to take on the hotly contested compact luxury CUV segment that features the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and let’s not leave out the recently refreshed Lexus NX.

We’re headed to Barcelona, Spain to drive and evaluate what could turn into a best-seller for the Swedish automaker. We already know that the 2019 XC40 sports a $39,500 starting price and will be powered by the T5 iteration of Volvo’s Drive-E boosted 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. With 248 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque on tap, an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD, the driving experienced should be a memorable one.
