Ferrari Developing AWD System

It appears to be all the rage these days to have your automaker’s biggest secrets divulged through inadvertent patent releases. With a surge of manufacturers suffering early releases at the hands of international patent offices, it still comes as something of a surprise to hear that not even the might of Ferrari can rise above the trend.

Typically extremely tight lipped about upcoming releases, there’s been few discussions pertaining to Ferrari’s plans for the future, however, some rumours have circulated about the potential for a hybrid sports car from Modena. And, according to a press release that recently surfaced, it would appear that Ferrari intends to operate that rumoured hybrid drivetrain through an all-wheel drive system. Interestingly, of the four proposed systems, each would allow the driver to turn the hybrid functionality off to reduce the vehicle to rear wheel drive only, leading many critics to believe Ferrari’s all-wheel drive system will remain true to the brand’s sporting heritage, unlike the shift seen at Porsche during the introduction of the Cayenne.
