2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show

Toyota’s TRD Pro truck lineup, which includes the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, is getting an overhaul, and the newest editions were presented at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is the most off-road capable variant of the brand’s small pickup line. As before, it gets upgraded Fox shock absorbers, TRD-tuned springs, a larger front sway bar and a one-inch suspension lift compared to the Tacoma TRD Off-Road edition. It also still wears exclusive 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in P265/70R16 Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar All-Terrain tires.

For 2019, the TRD Pro receives a new front skid plate with red lettering, but the biggest visual change—and an instantly noticeable one—is the addition of the TRD Desert Air Intake. The factory-installed snorkel is designed to allow the engine to breathe freely whether we’re barrelling through a desert or crossing a water stream.

Under the hood, we’ll still find Toyota’s 3.5-litre V6 that develops 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, matched to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.

As for features, a power sunroof will be included as standard equipment on the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, which already boasts leather upholstery, an infotainment system with seven-inch touchscreen and navigation as well as the Toyota Safety Sense P advanced driving aids. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the 2018 edition retails from $51,330 before freight and delivery charges. The new-and-improved Tacoma TRD Pro will be on sale this fall with a choice of three colours: Super White, Midnight Black Metallic or the TRD Pro exclusive Voodoo Blue.
