2018 Tesla Model 3 Makes its Canadian Premiere at the Toronto Auto Show
Production of the Tesla Model 3 has been off to a slow start, but the automaker is trying to pick up the pace, and the Canadian market will get its first glimpse of the fully electric sedan at the Toronto Auto Show.
Tesla’s first car designed for mass-market reach, the Model 3 will offer snappy performance with a 0 to 96 km/h (0-60 mph) sprint of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 208 km/h, according to the manufacturer. In base form, it will also boast an EPA-estimated driving range of 352 km.
The car’s five-passenger cockpit will feature dual-zone climate control, cloth upholstery, a rearview camera and a 15-inch touchscreen with navigation and voice recognition. With the help of eight cameras, radar and twelve sensors, the vehicle should be ready for autonomous driving and also feature collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking technologies.
A bigger battery pack is available on option, raising the driving range to an estimated 496 km, lowering the 0-96 km/h dash to 5.1 seconds and increasing top speed to 224 km/h. A Premium package adds power-adjustable and heated front seats, leather upholstery, a glass roof and a sound system upgrade, among other things. The Autopilot system is also available.
Access to Tesla’s Supercharger Network will be available, as is the case with the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X, but Model 3 owners won’t be able to have free access.
The 2018 Tesla Model 3 is priced at USD$35,000 before government green-vehicle incentives, and deliveries currently take 12 to 18 months after placing an order.
