CBB announces 2018 Best Retained Value Awards

Published on February 23, 2018 in News by Canadian auto dealer

Canadian Black Book has announced the winners of its 2018 Best Retained Value Awards in 20 categories, along with an additional three in the overall brand group.

Toyota dominated the list, coming in first in eight categories and taking two of three brand wins, with Porsche awarded the third spot. Toyota also received 14 mentions, such as being the top three in a category.

News of the awards was highlighted by a record 53 per cent for overall industry average retained value of four year old vehicles in Canada. That average is up two per cent from the previous record that was set in 2017.

The increase is due in large part to several strong segments and individual vehicles, such as the 2014 Jeep Wrangler breaking through the all-time retained value record by holding 91 per cent of its original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), according to CBB’s news release.

“What a great year for retained values,” said Brad Rome, President of Canadian Black Book. “That said, the feeling is that we are getting close to the turning point where values are going to begin to retreat. Market conditions, most notably the increase in supply in the U.S. and Canada is expected to put downward pressure on prices moving forward.”

Other notable winners include the Chevrolet Corvette in the “Premium Sports Car” category, retaining 88 per cent of its value; the Toyota FJ Cruiser in the “Mid-sized Crossover/SUV” — a previous all-time retained value record holder from 2017 (with 83 per cent) and holding 86 per cent of its value from 2014, and the Toyota Tacoma in the “Small Pick-up” category won nine years in a row and held 81 per cent of its value after four years.

“Congratulations to all the winners of the 2018 Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Awards,” said Rome. “You all deserve it for producing vehicles that Canadians want.”
