Volkswagen will Unveil "Another" SUV at the New York Auto Show

With the Atlas hanging around, a now-updated Tiguan, and the eventual arrival of something sub-compact based on the T-Roc—not forgetting the Golf SportWagen Alltrack—you’d think Volkswagen has all the SUVs it needs to tackle the current sport utility tsunami that’s flooding the industry. Turns out Volkswagen thinks otherwise, because at this year’s New York Auto Show, which opens its doors to the public this Friday, the carmaker plans on unveiling yet another one.

Atlas Derived

We know Volkswagen released its all-new, European-only Touareg a few weeks ago. Sadly, we won’t be getting that one, because we have the built-in-the-USA Atlas. At least, that’s what Volkswagen told us. But then, there’s this surprising news: VW plans on unveiling something roughly the same size as the Touareg in New York—a sport utility vehicle that will be largely derived from the Atlas, says Volkswagen. This mysterious midsize, five-passenger SUV will be built alongside the Atlas on the MQB platform at the Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, and styling-wise, the vehicle looks an awful lot like—ahem—the new Touareg.

As we’re writing this, Volkswagen has not given its new truck a name, nor has released additional information. All we have to share at the moment is the teaser image you see here. Of course, we’ll be in New York this week to tell you more about the vehicle.
