2019 BMW X5 Unveiled!
In the last year, le German automaker unveiled the new generations of its BMW X3 and BMW X4 crossovers, while the all-new BMW X2 recently arrived in dealerships. We drove a preproduction version of the BMW X7, whose final design should soon be revealed. Today, it’s the 2019 BMW X5’s turn to shine in the spotlight.
Its bodywork having been redesigned from A to Z, the fourth-generation of this midsize luxury SUV is bigger than the model it replaces. As a matter of fact, its wheelbase has been stretched by 42 millimetres, while its overall length has grown by 36 mm. Width and height are also up by 66 and 19 mm, respectively.

The X5 bears an obvious resemblance with the other X models, but its design is now more refined. BMW will offer several trim packages, including xLine and M Sport, but we’ll be able to personalise the vehicle’s appearance through the BMW Individual program.
At launch, the X5 will be available with four powertrains, but we doubt that the six-cylinder turbo-diesel mills (265 horsepower in the xDrive30d and 400 hp in the xDrive50d) will be sold in North America. Here, we’ll get a turbocharged 3.0-litre six (340 hp in the xDrive40i) and a twin-turbo, 4.4-litre V8 (462 hp in the xDrive50i). An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard, in addition to xDrive all-wheel drive, of course.
On the options list, the 2019 BMW X5 will feature an Off-road package that adds an air suspension, underbody shielding as well as a specific instrument cluster information display. Four drive modes will be available—sand, rock, gravel and snow—that will tweak mapping of the all-wheel drivetrain, the stability control system, the transmission and the throttle.
Inside, we’ll also be treated to the latest generation of the iDrive infotainment system with two 12.3-inch screens placed side by side, gesture recognition control, head-up display, multi-adjustable seats with massaging function, four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and much, much more.
The new 2019 BMW X5 will be on sale starting in November 2018.
