Planning a road trip in Canada or the U.S. for your next vacation? Before you head off, call your agent or broker and make sure you have the coverage you need in case you run into a problem.

Check whether your auto insurance policy provides adequate coverage. And increase your liability coverage as well. Should you have an accident, coverage of $2 million could provide better protection, especially in the U.S. where lawsuits are no joke!

Renting a Car?

If you’re thinking of renting a car in Canada or the U.S., for a small cost, Endorsement 27 (Civil liability resulting from damage caused to vehicles of which the named insured is not the owner) under your auto policy will cover you if you damage the rental vehicle. This coverage is often more advantageous than what’s offered by the rental company. Talk to your insurer!

The coverage offered is often the same as you have for your own car. But be careful. Are you planning to splurge out a little for your vacation? You should know that the maximum normally provided under this endorsement is $50,000.

Vacationing Elsewhere

Planning to drive elsewhere in the world? Some insurers offer Endorsement 27, regardless which country you visit. If your insurer does not offer this coverage, you can buy insurance from the rental company.
