Once again, BMW is launching a new or redesigned by first showing it off wrapped in camouflage. The 2019 3 Series Sedan shown here seems to be just about ready for prime time with an overall shape that resembles both the current-generation car and the 5 Series.

The 3 Series is shown here being tested on the Nordschleife portion of the Nurburgring, or what is also known as the Green Hell. According to BMW, the car’s suspension, steering and brakes have been redesigned, seeking to enhance ride comfort and dynamic performance.

The new generation’s centre of gravity is said to have been lowered by 10 millimetres, front/rear weight distribution is set at a perfect 50:50 split and overall weight is down by as much as 55 kilograms. The car’s structure is more rigid, front and rear track have been widened and wheel camber has been increased as well. An M sports suspension will be offered as well, with a ride height drop of 10 mm, 18-inch wheels and staggered tires. BMW says the sportier setup will be much firmer than the standard one, and it will be matched to a Variable Sports Steering system.

The German automaker confirms that the 3 Series will introduce the most powerful gasoline four-cylinder engine even fitted to a BMW production vehicle, along with a 5% reduction in fuel consumption. The current turbocharged 2.0-litre four develops 248 horsepower. It will be managed by a revised eight-speed automatic transmission, and no word yet on an eventual manual gearbox.

The 2019 BMW 3 Series should be officially unveiled pretty this fall.
