FCA Updates its 2019 Fiat 500X
Despite very low sales, FCA isn’t ready to pull the plug on the Fiat 500X. The automaker is actually unveiling the 2019 model of its all-wheel-drive subcompact SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which once again competes with the Mazda CX-3, the Honda HR-V and the Buick Encore.
From a styling standpoint, the vehicle’s front fascia has been modified by incorporating a new grille as well as LED daytime running lights and headlights. Its look has been modernized, but it keeps the family resemblance inspired by the iconic Cinquecento. We like the 500X for its unique design and its cheery colour palette, and three more hues have been added for 2019, including Italia Blue, Vibrante Green and Milano Ivory.
One Engine, Standard All-wheel Drive
Under the hood, FCA replaced the two previous engine options by a new turbocharged and direct-injected, 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque, stronger numbers than before. This engine also benefits from Fiat’s MultiAir valve-actuation technology and an automatic start/stop system, optimizing fuel economy.
All-wheel drive is now a standard feature for all trim levels, as is a nine-speed automatic transmission. A drive mode system is also included, with Auto, Sport and Traction + setting for modifying the driving experience.
Starting at $31,995 before freight and delivery charges, the 2019 Fiat 500X will be offered in three trim levels, including Pop, Trekking and Trekking Plus. It will go on sale in the spring of 2019.
